HAMILTON — Badin High School sophomores have been selected J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation scholars, recognizing their outstanding leadership potential, strong sense of moral values and their compassion to help the world around them.

“The J. Kyle Braid program is a premier leadership opportunity for students,’’ said Badin Principal Brian Pendergest. “These are members of the Class of 2014 who will make a positive difference throughout their years at Badin and beyond.”

Those selected from Badin include:
Luke Marot, the son of Pat and Mollie Marot of Fairfield and a graduate of Sacred Heart School.
Eric Murrell, the son of Darrell and Karen Murrell of Fairfield Township and a graduate of St. Joseph School.
Caity Corbissero, the daughter of Susan Corbissero of Fairfield and a graduate of
Colerain Middle School.
Megan Gonya, the daughter of Tim and Lisa Gonya of Hamilton and a graduate of
St. Joseph School.

Those four will attend a one-week leadership camp at the Braid Ranch in Villa Grove, Colo., during late July and early August of 2012.

In addition, four alternates were selected to be a part of the internal JKB program at Badin. They are Evan Gantenberg (Mother Teresa), Matt Krabacher (St. Peter in Chains), Maggie Adams (St. Peter in Chains) and Claire Schuster (St. Peter in Chains).

“These eight students are well-respected by their peers at Badin,’’ Pendergest said. “They have been, and will continue to be, very much involved in the success of the student body at Badin.”

The Braid Ranch emphasizes leadership training through recreation, problem-solving exercises and positive peer efforts – training the students then bring to bear when they return to school. Some 20 students from around the country attend the camp during each session, boys the first week and girls the second.

Ken and Colleen Braid founded the program, named for their late son, with a mission of “helping teens take the lead.”
